Business integrity

At Unilever, we believe in growing responsibly and sustainably. To do this, every employee must behave in ways that embody both our values (Integrity, Respect, Responsibility and Pioneering) and our behaviours. Our Code defines these non-negotiables, making clear what is expected from our people. Through living our Code, we bring our values, behaviours and purpose to life, every day, in everything we do.

Speak Up

The Speak Up process allows anyone, whether a Unilever employee or an external stakeholder, to confidentially raise concerns or report potential breaches of Unilever’s Code of Business Principles and Code Policies. Reports can be made securely via the Speak Up platform, which is available online and in multiple languages. All concerns raised are taken seriously and investigated thoroughly, with strict measures in place to protect the identity of those who speak up and to ensure there is no retaliation for making a report in good faith. This commitment underpins our dedication to operating with integrity and upholding the highest ethical standards across all our business activities.

Unilever’s Business Integrity Framework

Unilever’s Business Integrity (BI) programme lies at the heart of our commitment to ethical business practices. Our BI framework is founded on three pillars: Prevention, Detection and Response. You can read more about some of the key elements of this framework below.

  • Description of image

This picture visually represents the Business Integrity Framework structured around three main pillars: Prevent, Detect, and Respond. Prevent includes the elements: Risk Assessment, Written Standards and Communication & Learning. Detect includes Speak Up, Monitoring & Review and Audit & Deep Dives. Respond includes Investigation & Action, Recognition, and Continuous improvement. Each pillar is accompanied by coloured icons that symbolise the respective activities.

We empower employees to uphold our standards and values by providing clear rules based on the risks we face in our business along with practical resources, as described in Our Code of Business Principles and Code Policies. Our Code covers various themes such as anti-corruption, fair competition, protection of assets and information, and respect for people.

All Unilever employees, including senior leaders, are required to participate in mandatory Business Integrity training. Our Business Integrity team, in collaboration with subject matter experts, also provide operational teams with tailored communication and further training, ensuring that learning materials are locally relevant.

Unilever's Speak Up process ensures reported concerns are handled confidentially and without negative consequences for those who come forward. This approach protects anyone who speaks up and sustains a culture of integrity.

Unilever investigates all reports confidentially and impartially using a structured process, including evidence gathering and interviews. Resolution governance is in place to resolve Code concerns in a fair and timely manner.
